twenty4 were delighted when invited to pitch for The New Hamer Hall website design and development. We were even more delighted when we won the pitch and the opportunity to work on a website for a Melbourne icon!
Hamer Hall has been a construction site for the past two years, and is re-opening July 2012 with four days of celebrations. Redeveloped at a cost of $135.8 million, the new Hamer Hall now boasts an international standard concert auditorium with improved acoustics and backstage facilities.
The site was built using ASP.net and Umbraco CMS. The design and development timeline was tight in order to tie in with the official launch and media frenzy, so it was all hands on deck at twenty4 H.Q. As well as extensive browser testing in I.E., Firefox, Safari and Chrome on the Mac and PC, twenty4 also needed to make sure it will work on smartphones, iOS and Android which is increasingly relevant to how Hamer Hall’s visitors will need to access the site, based on statistical research.
The site features a very easy to use Events Calendar to quickly find out what event or opening celebration is happening on any given day. There can be multiple events/opening celebrations on the same day and events can fall under a number of categories so there was some thinking behind how it will all work smoothly.
Internal and extensive external User Testing uncovered some minor problems, mostly browser specific which were quickly rectified. Users were given specific tasks such as “Try and find a specific event and book a ticket.” User Testing is an interesting process as every mouse movement and audio is recorded.
Arts Centre Melbourne were a great client to work with and content and feedback was delivered quickly. The website is all about the content – so the design was kept clean, intuitive and easy to find information thanks to a great collaboration between twenty4 and Arts Centre Melbourne.
